Evans Francois - Orthopedic Deformity

Pastor Pierre came down this week with a young family who live near the "far away church" in the mountains of Kenscoff. The young father and his son stayed with us a few days while we arranged for medical care at the orthopedic clinc at Adventist Hospital , in the Carrefour area.

Evans' deformity is that one leg is significantly shorter than the other. The doctor examined him on Wednesday and the return visit for an xray was made this morning.

The normal leg is on the left-hand side of the xray. Looking at the right side of the xray you can only see the lower bones of the leg.

If the leg remains how it is Evans won't be able to walk. The doctor said that Evans is too young to operate on and the family was given an appointment to come back on June 6th. Pray for Evans and his young parents. He is their first child.

Goiter

When Dr. Karen was here in February an elderly lady with a huge neck came for help. We first got a sonogram done and it showed that the swelling is caused by a goiter. This is a thyroid problem that can result in a severe goiter as this woman has. We also did some blood work for her. Next week we hope to send her to the hospital in Cange, with the hope that they can do a surgery to help her. This hospital is located in the Central Plateau and provides free hospital care. Pray that they can help her.

Pray also for the medical system here in Haiti, that people don't have to suffer for so long before receiving medical care.

Easter Break is Over!

Today was the first day back to classes after the Easter break. It was good to see the children again and having an active yard!

Last week we picked up a food donation of Feed My Starving Children rice meals from Love a Child.  With these food donations we are able to help provide the students with a nutritious afternoon meal. Pray for the work of Love a Child. They are one of the best missions here in Haiti.

One of the students is carrying plates of food for her class mates. If you look carefully you will notice that this girl's mouth is the same color as the plate. Looks like she was using chalk for lipstick:)

Pray for the teachers and students as they now begin the 3rd semester.

Bensons' Brother

Benson went to visit his family over Easter break. Yesterday, a brother he never knew brought him back to Coram Deo. His name is Guichner and he is 17-years-old. They have the same mother and different fathers.

Benson loves his family and enjoys spending time with them. We enjoy helping the family out providing care for him and a place to stay, as his family is very poor and his mother has mental problems. Benson is happy to know that his family is larger than he thought :)

GOOD FRIDAY BAPTISM

Vernaldino Cadet, whose nick-name is "T-Ben" is one of our secondary students here at Coram Deo. He is a quiet, seriou student who wants to excel in his education. He attends church at Eglise Sur Le Rocher (Church on the Rock), and they held a special Good Friday baptism service. What a testimony to the message of Good Friday, Jesus Christ's death on the cross for our sins. It is "good" in that through his death and resurrection 3 days later our sins are forgiven and we have the gift of eternal life. The churches here in Haiti have been holding special services. This afternoon in our yard while working on the computer I have been listening to the voices of choirs rehearsing for the Easter Services at Pastor Octave's church tomorrow. He invited us to attend this service and I am going to try out my video camera to capture the music of these choirs. It sure was a special treat today to hear an early preview of what they will be singing and sharing with the church tomorrow. Pray also for T-Ben and his walk with God. It is good to see that as the children here at Coram Deo grow older that they are maturing in their faith as well and getting involved in the life of the church. Please pray for everyone here at Coram Deo and in Haiti this Easter season.
God Bless.

Wahoo Bay - Part 1

We are now on Easter Break! This past week when we were having our Coram Deo team meetings of what to do during Easter Break, the residents here presented a lot of different options.

After research, and discussion, a consensus was reached and we decided to head out to Wahoo Bay!

We would be tourists for the day at Wahoo Bay :)

We were surprised to see how many "blanc" were there :)

Wahoo Bay has a beautiful pool too. We swam in the sea and the pool. The children liked the pool the best.

When we first got to the pool, Manu, Solyvien and Yvens were the only ones using the pool.

The seashore was a busy place. This man on a surfboard was hoping to sell these conch shells to the tourists.

This man would prepare a fresh lobster meal :)

You could have pool service by the pool or by the sea :)

This is Haiti. Despite the problems in the country, Haiti can still be beautiful. It can compete with the Caribbean for tourists. I took over 200 pictures, so will post some more tomorrow :)

Aflac on Vacation!

With an early start to rainy season we have an abundance of water in our reservoir. This morning we decided to treat Aflac with a gift at our Coram Deo spa :) As you can see, the minute she was put in the water she started flapping her wings out of sheer enjoyment!

She enjoyed dunking her head under water and taking a bath.

This is her relaxing/lounging pose. See how she is resting her neck. It was good to see we made her day. We were going to eat Aflac for easter dinner but the children protested. We run our mission here at all times seeking consensus on all our decisions. At our team meeting this morning, consensus was to not eat Aflac and to instead buy her a mate so we can eat duck eggs and have baby Aflac's running around the house :)

This is Aflac's look when she is happy.
