Orchid Extravaganza! - Part 1

On Sunday April 1 in the afternoon we went over to the Karibe Hotel in the Juvenat area of Petionville.

They have an actual working water fountain in the yard!

And nice landscaping out front.

Our purpose was to visit the Orchid Extravaganza!

This is some fancy hotel! I couldn't believe that this is in the middle of Port-au-Prince! I don't get out to see the rich side of life here in Haiti. It was sort of a culture shock being inside the Karibe courtyard!

They even have this fancy tennis court on the grounds.

And a nice hanging plant trellace type thing.

The Karibe Hotel has a beautiful garden area. All these different types of clay pots were on display.

Here is me beside the pots :)

They had a Barbancourt Rhum display. This rum distillery just celebrated its 150 year anniversary. The Barbancourt Rhum is one of the best rums in the world and is a big export. It is distilled from sugar cane.

This orchid won a prize for one of the top orchids. I didn't like it too much :)

Here is a close-up of this orchid variety.

This pink one looks nice. It looks like a hibiscus flower.

It was neat to see how many different varieties of orchids grow here in Haiti.

This yellow flowered orchid is nice.

This looks like some creeping vine flower type orchid.

This is a neat design too.

This was one of the champion orchids. Beautiful yellow flowers.

A nice bright red orchid.

This white orchid reminds me of a daisy.

This pink flower orchid blends in well with the ferns growing nearby.

Another neat orchid.

This is a tie-dye orchid flower; yellow and orange :) I know absolutely nothing about orchids :)

I did learn though that you can't grow orchids in full sunlight. They like the shade. This is an area for our park area of the yard.

This looks like some sort of rubber plant. It is real. I was keeping a close eye to make sure I didn't take pictures of anything artificial :)

This is a nice small pink orchid.

This white one is neat. The orchids could be purchased. On the sign it said it could be paid on Mastercard or Visa. I wonder how much people had to pay for them?

I like these slender tie-dye pink orchids.

It was a beautiful garden to walk through. Everything was set up nicely.

This was the cut flower display from a local flower store. They sure are skillful in putting floral arrangements together.
