Kenscoff Mountain Walk - Part 3

Along the bottom of the mountain a river runs when it rains.

This is where the mountainside collapsed taking awya the road with it.

What befoe was a road was trucks could pass on is reduced to a footpath.

Eorsion will continue to effect the mountainside.

A pause to take in the sights and to rest.

There is no mercy with a landslide.

Walking through the landslide area.

The soft sandy soil will continue to fall during rains.

A good road opens up a community to transport their goods to Kenscoff. Now the people have to return once again to carrying everything out on their heads.

A view from the distance of where the mountainside collapsed.

Farmers lower down the mountainside on their fields.

Jake taking in the mountain view!

There is nothing better than hiking on the mountain crests. It is neat walking on a mountain top and seeing the mountain sides at each side of you :)

The view of the road/trail further into the mountains.

A "lakou" grouping of houses usually by family. As families grow they add a house to the lakou set up.

The road leading up to a small pine forest on the mountain top.

Supplies being carried for the walk.

This is hiking at its' best!

Everyone made steady progress on the trails.

A view from a yard.

A rest to chow down on some sugar cane.

Scraps of tin hold this house together. Sometimes during hurricane season winds are strong and houses like these are destroyed.

Janise and Adrian trying some sugar cane.

A rest stop at the home of a family in Pastor Pierre's congregation.

Steep sloping farm fields.

Regular rains are falling in Kenscoff and crops are growing.

Pastor Pierre showing the visitors around the mountain community where his church is located.

Ready to head down a trail.
